On April 11, 2022, the Minnesota Court of Appeals issued its opinion in State v. Edwards, a criminal appeal that addressed the validity of the trial rights waiver and of the underlying restraining order. Campbell Knutson Attorney Alina Schwartz argued for the State that the appellant’s trial rights waiver was valid and that he was precluded from collaterally attacking the validity of the restraining order. The Court of Appeals agreed with the State and ruled that appellant did not establish that the asserted error affected his substantial rights and that the challenges to the validity of the restraining order were not properly before this court, thus affirming appellant’s conviction.
