On June 1, 2021, the City of Edina City Council voted to participate in the Just Deeds project. Campbell Knutson is a partner organization of Just Deeds. Just Deeds is a project designed to acknowledge systemic racism in housing, specifically through education about discriminatory covenants. Discriminatory covenants were a tool used to segregate the Twin Cities and prevent black homeownership in the first half of the Twentieth Century. There are approximately 2,800 covenants on homes in the City of Edina. In 2019, The Legislature passed a law that allows property owners to discharge or renounce this shameful practice. The firm will be working in partnership with the City of Edina to discharge discriminatory covenants on City property and to assist interested Edina residents in discharging discriminatory covenants on their property on a pro bono basis.
